Cesky Krumlov
Wednesday 3rd August
Back on the bus to Cesky Krumlov where music was provided by the rep which was that depressing we were ready to slit our wrists on arrival. Commenting on the music wasn’t appreciated by the rep but had to be said when his phone rang ‘Was that the 80’s calling? Do they want their mix tape back?’. We had booked our beds late for Cesky so when we were told only the tower was available our expectations were high and the tower certainly didn’t disappoint. No time to unpack as it was time to go on a rafting pub crawl with complimentary rum – you have to love the lack of health and safety in CZ.
Some of us couldn't fit in the van to the river - as we were squeezing 12 people into only 6 seats - so some had to travel in the boot. Poor Wade had oars poking him in manly places where no oar had been before or should ever go again.
From the start it was clear we wouldn’t be taking the rafting too seriously when we stopped at the floating bar for mojito’s.
The rapids were not handled well by all, Jesse inparticular (worth a look at the video on facebook). Alex decided to relax at the back so we decided to push her in, Denmark 1 & 2 fully got involved with the splashing of everyone and wasps attempted to make love with James’ nipple all day.
We were quite easily the most drunken raft of the group when we finally pulled into the final pub but finding we were no longer in a state to disembark the normal way just flung ourselves in the river and hoped to make it to the steps.
Wednesday is free keg day at Hostel 99 so no rest for the drunks but it gave us a chance to mourn the loss of clothing that day – Bex’s recently fixed thongs and Jesse’s singlet which were both last seen floating down the river. Hoping to see the ghosts in our tower we held a tower party and as some couldn’t manage the stairs back down they stayed over.
Thursday 4th August
Today was the last day of touristing with Jesse James so we tried to make the most of it despite hangovers. The castle in Cesky keeps bears in its old moat, which we eventually got to see on the last day. Climbing the castle tower’s steps are a challenge for both hungover and tall people – all of our group. It was today that James announced his love for dogs that are small enough to lose.
Time for banking crisis number 2 and attempts to recover from yesterday were made while Alex headed off in search of a doctor yet again. This time she was successful though, after a potential vet, a cardiologist and a plastic surgeon and a pharmacist she finally returned with her own pharmacy and a chance to fix the rash.
To celebrate and say goodbye we headed for Italian for our last meal before finishing the vodka from the night before. While drinking in the kitchen a fellow bus-abouter, Wade, became supervisor to everyone’s actions including an Asian trying to write a postcard before threatening to tie him down in the night and shave his head so they can swap hair. I don’t think the Asian slept that night.
The local police presence moved everyone inside, as we had learnt yesterday that they are bored and like to taser tourists before throwing their passports in the river.
Friday 5th August
GOODBYE JESSE JAMES!!!!
Sad day for all as the touristing group split up with Jesse James heading to Salzburg and us staying in Cesky another 2 days. We walked them to the bus and held banners with reference to a certain person that only 3 group members found amusing.
Returning to the hostel -2 was odd after being attached for the last 6 days but a mojito got us through it. After a day of not much we found a BBQ dinner where they serve half a pig and a beer as big as your head for under £8 – bargain! Returning to the hostel we walked into the midst of a visa crisis with an aussie who basically didn’t have one but wanted to stay in Europe, after finally persuading him to go to the embassy in Vienna who will sort it we went for celebratory drinks at a bar where we feared for our organs.
Saturday 6th August
With not much to do in Cesky when we walked past a cocktail stand on the street our plans were established. A nice relaxing day of reading and drinking games before packing and a few more drinks in town.
